My labor experience

I decided to fill those of you who are interested in hearing about how my labor went last Thursday (13th–also my birthday). I first went into my Dr. on the 10th (Monday before), and he stripped my membranes. The next two days I was showing signs that labor was coming soon, but nonetheless, nothing happened. I walked for so long Monday and Tuesday to speed things up, but he obviously wasn’t ready.

I was scheduled for induction Thursday morning, which was what happened. We got to the hospital around 6am and by 7am I was admitted and they put me on pit. For two hours it was so slow going. I was even playing on our DS for a little bit, because my contractions were like period cramps. I was a little discouraged because it seemed as if I would be in labor all day long. So after Mike took a long nap, he went to the cafeteria to get something to eat. Right after he left, my Dr. came in and broke my water (which was such a weird sensation–it didn’t break until after I had the epidural with Kimi). After that, things started to move a lot faster. At 11:15 I was definitely ready for my epidural, of which the anesthesiologist did a fantastic job. I could still move my legs, but only felt the pressure. However, I was only to about a 4. But in one hour I moved from a 4 to a 10. My doctor then came in and I pushed for about 10 minutes and he was out! I did have to have a small episiotomy (sp?) though. He was born at 1:07 p.m.

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better labor. My epidural was perfect, my episiotomy hasn’t hurt at all, I haven’t been on pain killers much past the first couple of days–I feel great. It is like night and day difference from our first and second kid. The hardest part has been dealing with my sweet newborn son and my crazy stubborn two year old daughter.
